Prospect has participated for years in a “Help a Family” program that is organized by MEND (Meeting Essential Needs with Dignity). Through that program, participating Prospect families are each paired with an Essex County family in need and, using family profiles provided by MEND, provide holiday gifts for every family member, as well as gift certificates for food from a local grocery store. This is a significant commitment of time, and a large financial commitment as well. In the past, some Prospect members have paired up to adopt a family together to share the work and cost.
Covid has also created one particular kind of gift request: Chromebooks. Normally that kind of gift is beyond what is provided; but with students doing school online, families without resources are struggling to provide the needed technology to kids, so the need is critical. If there are Prospect people who would consider donating a new Chromebook and having another family do the rest of the shopping, that can be arranged by Sara Smith, Prospect’s Help A Family coordinator. And as always, for those who want to help MEND in its mission without the commitment Help a Family involves, there is the option of making a financial donation.
If you are interested in finding out more about the program, or speaking with someone who has participated before, please email Sara Smith at email@example.com or call her at 908-347-0859.
